G Scales for Blues Guitar

24 types on one root. The minor pentatonic and the blues scale come first for most players; every other one is here too.

Every scale type this site maps, rooted on G and laid onto this seat. The two a blues player reaches for first are the minor pentatonic and the blues scale, which is the same five notes with one more squeezed in between the fourth and the fifth.

On the guitar a scale is mostly raw material for bends: a note a fret or two below the one you want, pushed up until it sounds right against the chord, which is how a fretted instrument reaches the pitches between its frets.
